After three and a half years of cruising the world, mainly on the Queen Elizabeth 2, I ended up traveling to over fifty countries and six continents around the globe. Well, there was 2 things you always hear here about in the Navy, and many people do not get to experience it, however I was fortunate enough to do each one, one time. Many skippers, or captains of ships, do not like to hold swim call, which indicates they stop the ship, and let everybody overdo it for a swim in the ocean. However one time, the captain from the USS PROTEUS, stopped the ship, and let the Sea Port Jobs crew go for a swim in the ocean. It was a hot, perfect, gorgeous day out for a swim. It was extremely hot, we were on our method to Guam from the Philippines.

On our ship, they used the torpedo, and rocket publication rooms, for storage, of heaps of wicker and rattan furnishings. There were loads of it. If you might think of a furniture shop, that was what we had in the torpedo rooms. The cranes that were attached to the ship, were now dumping everything down onto the pier. Some guys stated they got really bargains. I had no place, or utilize for a wicker couch, so I did not purchase anything.
